We started selling whole grain breads and baking at The St. Norbert Farmers Market in 2003 as a way to share our passion for how whole grains had made a difference in our lives.
About five years into the whole-grain baking business venture, we noticed that more and more people were asking for gluten-free products. We wanted to offer our customers something out of the ordinary, yet healthy and delicious, but didn’t know what we could offer to fill the void…the problem was solved when Natalie remembered the delicious flax cracker that she had once tried and fallen in love with…but had no idea how to make!
We first introduced flax crackers to our customers in 2009, and because they appealed to such a wide range of health-conscious people, we decided that it was time to create a similar product that was a little on the sweeter side, yet still full of raw seeds. The result was the Chocolate Hemp Snacker – a raw, crunchy energy bar made primarily from organic hemp seed – which went on to win the grand prize in a provincial food contest seeking innovation. Five years later, the Chocolate Hemp Snacker caused Natalie to become the MCM Panel’s Emerging Innovator.
