To Chew or Not to Chew
There’s a misconception out there that flax is only good for you if it’s crushed.
There’s also the misconception out there that flax can only be crushed by mechanical means. Whatever happened to good ‘ole chewing? Good digestion requires lots of good old fashioned chewing, but somewhere along the line we’ve forgotten that and become lazy eaters. I’ve heard it said that we should chew our food as many as thirty times! How many times do you chew your food? Have you ever counted?
So what is our point here? Some people don’t eat flax because they think that it has to be ground before it can be utilized by the body. This is only partially true (but that’s for another blog post). In case you’re not up to chewing your flax crackers thirty times, we’ve helped make things a little easier for you! Prior to dehydrating our flax crackers, we soak them; this softens the seed coat and also gets the germination process going, which helps to make all sorts of nutrients more bioavailable! Our soaking process softens the seed coat enough that you can easily crush the seeds – in under thirty chews, if necessary! So put your pearly whites to good use and get chewing! Your body will thank you 🙂
