We do, but they are currently only available at our booth at The St. Norbert Farmers Market.
Ideally, you should eat them as soon as you get them! Why wait to begin reaping their benefits 🙂
If it’s not practical for you to eat them right away, then keep them in a cool, dry place. Once opened, reseal the bag and keep them somewhere cool and dry. If they soften up before you can finish them, put them in a warm oven just long enough to remove excess moisture – likely only a couple minutes.
No. Our hemp seed may be consumed by just about anyone.
Our energy bars are lightweight because they have had excess moisture removed. So essentially, you’re paying for straight-up nutrition!
We sure hope so! We’re new to this and want to ensure that we know what we’re doing in our own country before we venture further out 🙂 Hopefully it won’t take long before we find our wings.
We use local ingredients whenever possible and practical.
We purchase our flax seed directly from a farmer in southern Manitoba, our hemp seed from a processing plant fifteen minutes away from our facility, maple sugar from Quebec, and saskatoons are from a nearby grower. Where we can’t use local, we try our best to source organic.
Yes, these products are nut-free, but some contain allergens such as coconut or sesame.
Because we feel that healthy products like these are best consumed fresh :), our “best before” is approximately 120 days from time of manufacture. After that, some flavours may deteriorate.
We use maple sugar because it is low-glycemic and contains a wide variety of minerals. Maple sugar is becoming known as one of the healthiest all-natural sugar options out there! And if that isn’t enough to convince you, it is truly Canadian, eh? Here’s an interesting read: http://www.livestrong.com/article/403181-is-pure-maple-syrup-healthy/
Entire books have been written about the merits of these superseeds, but to sum up, they’re all sources of vegan protein, loaded with fibre, and great sources of Omega 3 and antioxidants!
We process at temperatures that do not exceed 118F, in keeping with generally accepted “raw” foods criteria.
We say that the product is “raw” because the processing leaves the nutrient value in virtually its natural state. We could process at temperatures as high as 155F and still have our products considered to be “raw” by some standards, but although that would shorten our processing time immensely, we choose to go the slow route and give your body every advantage…rather than our bottom line.
Ideally, you’ll gobble up your Flax Crackers or Hemp Snackers on your way home from the store, but if they soften up before you can do that, simply put them in a warm oven just long enough to remove excess moisture – likely only a couple minutes. Let them cool for a couple minutes, and they should be fine.
Crumbs at the bottom of the bag are to be expected when you buy a bag of Flax Crackers or Hemp Snackers. Flax Crackers crumbs add a healthy crunch to salads, and Hemp Snacker Crumbs make an out-of-this world addition to Greek yogurt. Before you know it, you’ll be stomping on your bag just to make sure you get enough crumbs!
Functional ingredients are ingredients that deliver health benefits above and beyond basic nutrition. Functional ingredients are important components in the prevention, management, and treatment of certain diseases. For this reason, Rawnata products are centred around raw seeds such as flax, hemp, and chia.
Raw seeds contain an abundance of enzymes, and since enzymes are essential components of all bodily functions, assisting to break down and distribute nutrients (and thus cause the body to work more efficiently), we try to give you as many as we can!
Excellent question! While we were in the early stages of developing our Flax Crackers, we used crushed flax. Although the end result was a far less seedy cracker, we weren’t satisfied with the potential loss of nutrient value; once flax seeds have been crushed, their valuable Omega 3 oils begin oxidizing, and can actually harm you more than help you, unless they’re consumed right away. Instead, we soak the flax and allow the germination process to begin (lots of health benefits, btw). This process softens the seed coat enough to allow easy chewing. Yes, you’ll have to chew your crackers a little bit to reap their health benefits, but we know that your heart will thank us.
At this point, our products are not certified organic, but eventually we want them to be…but in the meantime, rest assured that we do our utmost to source ingredients that are! We want every single bite to be full of straight-up goodness.
Yes, they are. No eggs, no dairy, no honey. Our products are not produced in a vegan facility, though, so if you need more information, drop us an email 🙂
That’s a tricky one to answer. On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, no…
Although Rawnata products are made in a facility that also processes gluten, the Crackers and Snackers themselves do not contain any gluten-containing ingredients. If you or someone you know is celiac, please exercise caution before chowing down on a bag of our yummies!
