The Speech That Changed My Life
“About 2400 years ago, the great physician Hippocrates proclaimed: ‘Let food be your medicine, and medicine be your food’. He may have been referring to my Chocolate Hemp Snackers!
Many of the diseases running rampant in North America have been proven to have dietary links. A ‘Live to Eat’ mentality has led to unprecedented deterioration in health, evidenced by Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid conditions. What can be done to reform our health? We must eat to live!
Natalie’s LifeSense Natural Foods” began in 2010 as a spin-off of my Bread Lady business. “Natalie’s” products are sold alongside Bread Lady products at the St. Norbert Farmers Market. They are gluten-free, vegan, raw foods that have been dehydrated at low temperatures to aid in digestion. We offer over 50 products in all, from baked breads, cookies, and granola, to flax crackers, Chocolate Hemp Snackers, and sprouted buckwheat bars.
My mission is to educate consumers about eating to live. I try to use ingredients that are nutrient-dense, unrefined, and local, such as cold-pressed oils…and organic seeds, like flax, chia, sunflower, and hemp. Initially, many were reluctant to try our various hemp products, but the tide has turned! Savvy consumers surf the web, read labels, and listen to Dr. Oz endorse hemp beverage! They consider what they’re putting into their bodies! They want ready-made and indulgent, but guilt-free and functional, too. They want Chocolate Hemp Snackers!
While investigating equipment to mass-produce my flax crackers…my chocolate hemp snackers quickly gained loyal fans. Based on rave reviews from hundreds of people, I believe many more will love them, too!
Hemp seed, a centuries-old dietary staple, virtually disappeared from the North American diet until, in March of 1998, after increases in market demand and field research, the Canadian government reinstated hemp production.
Hemp is nutrient-rich. It contains folate and vitamins B1, B6 and E. It’s very high in phosphorus, is rich in magnesium, and has excellent amounts of iron, zinc, and copper. It contains the 18 key amino acids, 10 of which are essential fatty acids – or EFA’s – which MUST be obtained from food. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. They are essential to the repair of muscle tissue. We can’t survive without EFA’s, yet about 80% of us suffer from dry skin, cracked heels, allergies, stiff joints, dandruff, or menstrual cramps because we are deficient in them! An optimum ratio of the polyunsaturated Omega 3 and Omega 6 EFA’s are present in hemp seed in high concentrations…
Hemp is a unique source of naturally occurring steridonic and gammalinolenic acid, which regulate inflammation and auto-immune response. Consumption of hemp seed promotes fetal brain development and childhood growth, maintains healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and prevents, reverses, or alleviates ADHD, allergies, Alzheimer’s, asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes, eczema, heart disease, hypertension, menopause, pms, and stroke. The power contained in this sustainably grown little seed! One tablespoon of hemp seed contains 1 gram of Omega 3 and 3.2 grams of the highest quality, and most easily digested, protein. And, because hemp has no protein inhibitors, it won’t give you gas!
You don’t need to feel guilty about eating a handful of Chocolate Hemp Snackers, as their other ingredients also are beneficial. Coconut reduces the risk of heart disease and enhances immunity…cocoa is rich in antioxidants, fiber and magnesium. Magnesium builds strong bones and supports brain activity and healthy heart function. Most of us are magnesium-deficient…
More hemp snacker varieties are being developed. I would like to make the nutritional claims of being gluten-free, vegan, heart healthy, and high in fibre and protein…
Chocolate Hemp Snackers showcase an outstanding Manitoba crop. They can benefit the Manitoba economy and give Manitobans a healthy snack alternative.
If Hippocrates were alive today, I’m sure he’d enjoy them, and so can you!
